Insulation technologies
- Wet façade is the most common method: a “pie” of insulation, reinforcement and decorative plaster
- Ventilated facade - cladding on a frame with an air gap
How is a wet facade made?
- Selection of materials and estimate.
- Preparing the base. Dedusting and priming the walls.
- Insulation installation. The thickness in Cyprus is at least 8 cm, otherwise the desired effect will not be achieved. The boards are glued with a special adhesive, with rows interleaved, and additionally secured with dowels.
- Reinforcement. Apply two layers of putty, the first one being coated with a façade mesh.
- Decorative plaster. Acrylic or silicone based.
Important details
- Insulation is carried out after installation of windows and doors
- Pay special attention to the junctions with window frames and door frames: they have the greatest impact on heat loss.
- The insulation must be vapor-permeable – this is critical in humid climates.
- The average service life of thermal insulation is about 15 years.
The durability of the façade and the indoor climate depend on the quality of installation, so this work should be entrusted to professionals.
If the facade only needs painting and crack repair, see facade painting and repair. Roof waterproofing will provide protection from above.
